Course goal: The artist habits of mind

Throughout Artistic Explorations we will look to create "Artist Habits of Mind". In addition to creating engaging art projects, we aim to create a type of student: the artist. Everything we do will center around developing one of these key characteristics. Click the link below to find out more.

Artists Habits of Mind

Week 1 (1/26/2024) -

Cultural Tea Bowls

Students will design and create a set of tea bowls that reflect a culture or personal interest. The world of Avatar the Last Airbender will serve as a starting point for inspiration. One day will be used to design and construct the tea bowl, and there will be another change to glaze and/or paint.

Week 2 (2/9/2024) -

The Flying City Project

We will be designing a 'flying' city for this STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) project. We will be working in groups to create a thematic city. The project will be completed over two sessions to plan, design, and create. We will also be utilizing the engineering process to ensure our project can 'fly'.

Week 3 (2/16/2024) -

My Family Museum

For our final project, and time permitting, we will create a tiny exhibit in our Tiny Museum about our family. We will discuss different aspects of what makes a family, and practice proportions and portrature.

Week 4 (3/22/2024) -

TBD

Week 5 (4/5/2024) -

Virtual Showcase

Students will complete, discuss, and present their artistic explorations.

Take some time to plan your thinking and responses to these questions.   Use note paper or a journal to think about and answer the following Learning Walk questions:

·         What was the coolest thing you learned?

·         What did you create or accomplish that you are most proud of?

·         What curiosity did this learning spark in you?

·         What do you now want to learn more about?

ASSIGNMENT:   Create a Learning Walk presentation that answers these questions in any format of your choosing.  You can record a video, write an essay, create a presentation, or even a learning flyer!  Be creative in your presentation.  When finished, please upload your presentation to Google Classroom (slides, art, or document).

If you choose to record a video, you may use this following Flip Grid link:  https://flipgrid.com/fee9ab05

·         Students may create a slides presentation, a written essay or short answer response, a flyer or brochure, a collage or scrapbook, or   even a video presentation they record to FlipGrid

·         Students should be guided through this assignment and should upload to Google Classroom their final product.

·         When completed, students should mark the assignment as complete in Google Classroom
