The Discworld Series is a collection of stories by English author Sir Terry Prachett which take place on the planet of Discworld. Discworld is just that, a world in the shape of a disc. Instead of orbiting a sun as our world does, Discworld travels through the universe atop 4 giant elephants on the back of The Great A'Tuin, a turtle. There are witches and wizards, kings and queens, princes and princesses, common folk, and other magical beings. Whether you are looking for a magically fun read, a satirical critique of modern society, or both the Discworld series has a little something for everyone. With more than 40 books in the series there is a lot to explore.
Whether you are just learning about Discworld or are an avid fan looking for additional resources we hope you find the guide helpful and interesting.
The guide contains references and resources as well as where to find physical copies of Discworld books and helpful tips about where you might want to start your Discworld adventure.
Most of the Discworld series books are recommended for older readers, young adult to the forever young at heart. The books are not hard to read but many do contain some mature subject matter and language. That being said, we do not believe in discouraging reading. We agree with Neil Gaiman when he says, “there is no such thing as a bad book for children. It’s tosh. It’s snobbery. It’s foolishness,” (Art Matters, p 18). In Discworld, snobbery and foolishness often result in unhappy endings.
