Civil Engineering focuses on the concept of design, construction, and maintenance of the environment that sustains current society. This field of engineering involves the safe delivery of important public infrastructure, including bridges, roads, airports, dams, water treatment systems, and large-scale buildings. It is a foundation that balances structural integrity and public safety with environmental sustainability, resource management, and urban planning.
During the first week of our course, we explored topics in civil and environmental engineering through presentations, projects, and hands-on activities. We learned about windmills, electromagnetism, and water reuse. Our deliverables for the topics learned in this week are two research papers detailing the design process of structures including simulations and models, as well outlining cost effective ways of reducing human negative impacts on the air quality.
