Choose an interesting location on campus, record 1-3 minutes of the soundscape, and collect 8-10 additional sounds from the area. Create a 1-3 minute ambient track in BandLab, using your soundscape recording as a foundation and layering selected additional sounds over it (as-is or edited), in order to illustrate what it the space means to you. The finished track should feature non-linear time. Due: 1/19
Using the "Drum Machine" on BandLab, create two beats, one for a verse and one for a chorus, that include at least four contrasting drum sounds. Extend both beats to last eight measures, and then click on "BandLab Sounds" in the lower right menu, browse the available loops, and add guitar, bass, keyboard parts, etc. to fill out the sound. Due: 1/26
In this assignment, we will create a verse and chorus using preset chords: start by making verse and chorus beats in BandLab as in the Beats and Loops. Then, click on BandLab Sounds/One-Shots in the lower right corner, and search for AGTR
Drag the following samples into separate tracks:
E Major
A Major
B7
F# Minor
G# Minor
C# Minor
D# diminished
Experiment with 1) contrasting chord sequences by dragging the chords into different configurations and 2) harmonic rhythm by resizing the samples (hover on the right-hand edge until the double arrow appears)
When you have something you like, create a verse and chorus with contrasting chords and harmonic rhythms. Due: 2/9
