One of the things that contributes to grit and resiliency is getting in touch with what is important and meaningful to you - Resiliency Skills Training (ReST) by Jessica S. Gifford
Call your parents, grandparents, or other significant figures in your life thus far, and interview them about music: what music do they enjoy, what do they dislike, what music was played at weddings, funerals, and other significant life events, what concert/album made the biggest impression them, and so forth. Then think about your experience with music, how it has overlapped with theirs, where you have disagreed with them, and what you have discovered on your own. 300-500 words
Due 1/12 with Site set-up
In addition to the listening in class, explore the Spotify Playlist for Exercise 8-1 (pp. 76-77 of The Music Within You). Then, go back and compare four of your discoveries with the music and values you identified in your Musical Life History. What elements (timbre, texture, rhythm, melody, harmony, lyrics) seem to be essential to your musical taste, what do you definitely not like, and what surprised you? Finally, how might these preferences have developed from your life experience, and how might they represent your strengths? 300-500 words. Due 2/2
Due 2/23

Looking back over the Resilience Challenges from the journals (Mindful Noting, Nature, Sleep, etc.), which have been the most useful or impactful? Which have you continued? How have these exercises affected your experience at HPU?
We had Craig Curty from the Peer-Assisted Learning Service (PALS) , Samantha Gates-Reese from Career Services/Professional Development, and Bryan Nicholls from the Smith Library come in to give short introductions to student services.
