The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has announce the cause of the tragic crash that took the life of Scott Bloomquist.
There was no mechanical problems with the plane at the time of impact, and the NTSB cited the cause of the accident as, "the pilot’s intentional flight into a building as an act of suicide."
Bloomquist, 60, was pronounced dead at the scene after the Piper J3C-65 Cub antique plane he was flying crashed into a barn on his families property. This occured on August 16, 2024. A representative of the Bloomquist family released a statement that the family has declined to comment further about the NTSB's findings in the June 5th report.
“At this time, the family of Scott Bloomquist is not making any public statements regarding the plane crash or the recent NTSB findings,” a statement said (via Fox Sports). "They are focused on supporting one another and respectfully request privacy as they navigate this difficult period. We appreciate your understanding and ask that the media refrain from the further inquiries at this time.”
Bloomquist won many crown jewels in his career and won over 600 feature events. He won over 30 Late Model races in the World of Outlaws and had over 90 wins in the Lucas Oil dirt Late Model series. He also ran a few NASCAR Truck and ARCA Menards Series races as well.

Kyle Busch, a name you have heard before. You’ve seen him win two Cup Series championships, you’ve seen him in dirt and pavement late models, win in the former SRX series, and you seen him in a Micro, but Rowdy fans will get to see Kyle in a completely different machine later on this month and over this coming off-season before the NASCAR Cup series begins the 2025 season at Bowman Grey in February.
USAC Debut
It was announced that Kyle Busch will make his USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship debut at Bakersfield Speedway on November 26, then he will race the 83rd running of the ARP Turkey Night Grand Prix at Ventura Speedway. Busch will carry the number 51 on his Kyle Busch Motorsports midget, with FloRacing as a partner and Lucas Oil as a sponsor.
Chili Bowl Nationals
Wait, there is more. It was announced that the two-time champion will compete in the 39th annual Chili Bowl Nationals powered by NOS Energy Drink at the SageNet Center in January. Kyle in an interview talked about what his thoughts were on racing in the Chili Bowl at the Shootout over a year ago. His mind has since turned around. It is because now that he has more experience on the dirt and learning more of what to expect behind the wheel, he is more than comfortable racing in the “super bowl of Midget racing,” but will be leading on past winners, Rico Abreu, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Tanner Thorson, and Ashton Torgerson for advice as he has built a great relationship with each of them. In his early years, Kyle raced pavement. He never raced dirt up until a few years ago and has primarily raced micros. But a midget is a whole different ball game, a midget has a completely different power-to-weight ratio than a micro. 400 horsepower vs 140 horsepower; it can definitely be inferred that it is a major difference. He is excited to get behind the wheel and see what a midget is all about.
Tulsa Shootout
Busch is also going to be competing in the Tulsa Shootout in December. He and his son Brexton will be vying along with possibly over a thousand others in winning the Golden Driller. Busch has been enjoying learning more about dirt racing. It is also a chance for both him (Busch) and Brexton to have father son bonding. If you recall, we have seen the Rowdy duo here in the 618 before. In 2022, the KBM team landed in Du Quoin for the Midwest Winter Nationals. Brexton won the Junior Sprint race, and later on picked up a win at Wayne County Speedway in Wayne City, Illinois that same year. Kyle picked up a win at Doe Run Raceway in 2023 as a part of NASCAR weekend and Eli Holden and Brexton Busch had a great battle in the Junior Sprints at Wayne County that Saturday. Then this year, Brexton raced in DRN’s backyard, picking up wins at Southern Illinois Raceway in the Restricted and Junior Sprint divisions during the KKM Challenge event in August.
They race so many races a year to prepare for the Tulsa Shootout, which draws over a thousand competitors from across the United States. And at the time of writing this article, it has close to 950 entries, and is on track to breaking the record of 1,752, which was set at last year's event.
It is going to get Rowdy here in the next couple of months, and you can watch all events mentioned above on FloRacing!
