As early as 8 weeks old we want to begin teaching the fundamentals of Obedience. Sit, Down, Stay, Come when called, Heel (walk appropriately on a leash), Off, and much more. In order to accomplish these behaviors I pair the use of positive reinforcement, clear communication, and short & fun training sessions involving **play.
Proper Socialization
Beyond just meeting people and dogs, Puppyhood presents a time period in all dogs life where proper socialization to EVERYTHING your dog may encounter in its lifetime is CRUCIAL. Safety is always my number one priority and I will show you the best places and ways to take your puppy. Ultimately, Proper socializations helps ensure that your dog is avoiding common puppyhood issues such as fearfulness, aggression, and other problem behaviors.
Something to strongly consider when socializing a puppy properly is the 2 FEAR PERIODS they go through. The first fear period usually occurs while the puppy is still with its mother but the second fear period usually occurs between five and six months and lasts two to three weeks. During this time, you will notice that rather than having a curious puppy you now have a fearful and timid puppy. One bad experience during this time could be extremely detrimental to building a confident dog.
Solving Problem Behaviors
I want to show you how to properly manage common puppy behaviors. As your puppy is developing, behaviors such as biting, chewing, whining, nervousness, and reactivity may arise. These undesirable behaviors often cause extreme frustration which in tern may hinder the relationship between you and your puppy. Allowing Problem behaviors to go unaddressed will result in problems that persist far past puppyhood and significantly elongates the training process. I want to help you structure your puppies life and guide you through showing your puppy exactly how you want them to behave as an adult dog BEFORE the problem gets out of hand.
**Proper play through clear communication is vital to ensure that your attempt to make training more enjoyable is not actually negatively impacting your relationship with your puppy. Games like tug and fetch require more thought than you may think. Proper play helps us manage energy levels and promotes good behavior all day. I want to show you all sorts of fun games to help make training much more enjoyable for both you and your puppy.
