Direct Swap Policies

What is Direct Swap?

A direct swap request occurs when two students want to “swap” room assignments with each other. Direct swaps are specific for two students; they cannot perform swaps for more than two students at a time.

Finances

You pay for what you live in. If the cost increases, you must pay the difference. If the cost decreases, your account gets credited.

Background:

This project is run by BUowo. I am searching for a solution to a problem—BU's insufficient Direct Swap matching system. Dozens of Reddit posts flood r/BostonU with students begging for a match, and it's not working.

I am creating a database to compile interested students so you folks can contact each other to hopefully find a swap.

Any questions, feedback, or inquiries should be sent to me directly.

NOT BU AFFILIATED

Why is Myles Standish's Name No Longer a Residence Hall?

Myles Standish's name is no longer on a residence hall at BU due to his violent history against the Indigenous People of this land and a community-driven effort to rename the building. Standish, known for leading the 1623 Massacre at Wessagusset and beheading Native leader Wituwamat, is remembered by the Massachusett Tribe for his brutality.

In response to this history, the Massachusett Tribe at Ponkapoag and BU community advocated for the change. The campaign to rename the hall to Wituwamat Memorial Hall began with a petition on August 23, 2021, which garnered nearly 2,000 signatures. This initiative reflects BU’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity and aligns with broader movements to address derogatory names and imagery.

The building is now temporarily known by its address, 610 Beacon Street.

This project is not BU affiliated. Participants should proceed at their own risk
