DDS, or Direct Drive Solar, is a method of electricity production. Like regular solar-power systems, DDS also produces electricity from the sun's rays. Different from regular solar-power systems, DDS sends the produced electricity directly to the energy-needing appliances.
For example,
In regular solar-power system that might be used in a townhome, the solar panels produce energy, which then goes through a battery and other devices before reaching appliances.
A DDS system is used in a townhome, the solar panels produce energy, which directly power appliances.
DDS is an ideal solution for:
Those seeking low-cost electricity options.
Those who are otherwise without electricity (located outside of power grid, etc.)
Those who have difficult or inconsistent access to electricity (from power outages, etc.).
Those who are able to devote time to managing which device is connected.
Those who want solar powered electricity that is more simple and easily understandable.
DDS is best used where battery would need to be huge to accommodate large loads.
DDS is best used for large systems where there are many machines that don’t run at the same time, high power, and the tasks they do can be rescheduled easily.
DDS applications are constrained by:
*DDS isn't able to run multiple devices at full power, at once.
DDS power, compared to standard AC/DC power decreases at night, as it has no battery.
All solar systems are limited by environmental temperatures, and weather conditions.
The need to accommodate to the type of power that the appliance needs. (Ie: you wouldnt be able to run a miscrowave because it needs a kind of power that DDS cannot produce without a converter [which would make it a regular solar-power system].)
