Dinosaur Chess Free Download

I used to play this dinosaur game that was burned onto a CD-ROM (I'm unsure if it was a legit copy) where different dinosaur types behaved like chess pieces. It was basically chess, but with dinosaur species instead of chess pieces and you and the AI opponent would take turns to make moves. They didn't necessarily copy the moves of chess pieces, but some had their own rule. For example, pterodactyls could behave like rooks and only move horizontally or vertically while brachiosaurs could only advance one space at a time. I remember when the brachiosaur would advance forward, it'd make a loud roar(?) and stomping noises. I could see a bird's-eye-view of the chessboard with my dinosaurs closer and towards the bottom of the screen. There may have been other games aside from the chess minigame, but I'm unsure of this. This engaging game is designed to teach kids how to play chess, although we found a minor glitch during our tests. Dinosaur Chess' colorful graphics are top-notch, and the well-designed interface and simple instructions make it easy for kids to follow. You can choose from various playing modes, but the trial version limits you to two lessons and two games. In our tests, after reaching checkmate, Dinosaur Chess didn't indicate that the game was over, and we could still move pieces on the board. You can restart the game to remedy this, but this seems like a flaw that might confuse younger kids. Much like the key characters in this game, this download is big, coming in at nearly 23MB. The trial restrictions are a bit severe, but Dinosaur Chess is a fun way to teach kids to play chess.

Dinosaur Chess is a great way to introduce children to chess. Once they have graduated from this program, they will have an appreciation for the game and will be ready to learn the strategies for playing more complex games.

This chess board is constructed from American black walnut and maple and completed with 32 dinosaur head pieces. Standing no taller than 10cm each, the hand-painted playing pieces are crafted from poly-resin and the complete set incorporates 12 different species.

As a parent, I liked the bite-size lessons and the flexibility of this game. It offers basic lessons about chess, such as the pieces, how they move, their strengths and weaknesses. Each lesson is about 5 minutes long, ending with a game using knowledge learned in the lesson. In our case, my daughter already knew some of the basics, I was able to go into settings to give her options to move directly to tactics lessons. All lessons are well done, appropriately short, and include several chess problems to solve before the lesson is considered complete.

I only have a couple of minor improvement thoughts as we played Dinosaur Chess. One is to add a chess notation to the board through settings. Two is to add more difficulty levels to the Tactics Machine.
