Bilingual

Program

The Bilingual Program at DingXi Elementary captures the imaginations of students by focusing on content that is real and familiar. In four years of bilingual classes, students interact with a variety of people, places, and other things special to Taiwan and our community, Yonghe.

Introduction and Purpose

Dingxi Elementary is a member of the Bilingual Program in New Taipei City. At Dingxi, the Program has helped our school to employ one foreign teacher. Bilingual classes take place once a week and English classes three times a week, meaning students receive four classes taught in  English every week.

The Program is designed to help students learn about the world around us and also about how we connect to it . Topics such as feelings, community, respect, and work are discussed. Useful English skills are emphasized when exploring these topics. We hope that by using English to learn about these things, our students will be better prepared for life in the modern world.

Course Content

Content used in the Bilingual Program is taken from two places:

The materials used in the Program are also important. One tool that is used is the storybook; one time, every four weeks, students explore a story. Reading these stories helps students know and develop authentic language. Additionally, students also learn by doing many different task-based activities.
