A Brief History

The Beginning

DingXi Elementary School began in August 1954. At first, it was a branch of another school and was called the DingXi Branch of Xizhou National School (溪洲國校頂溪分校). In 1955, DingXi became an independent school. [1]

The school's name changed several times as Yonghe and Taiwan changed. In 1958, Yonghe became its own town. In 1968, Taiwan began nine-year compulsory education, and the school became DingXi Elementary School. Later, Yonghe became a city, and in 2010, Taipei County became New Taipei City. [1]

A Growing School

As more families moved to Yonghe, DingXi grew quickly. During the 1950s and 1960s, many new classrooms were built. By the 1970s, DingXi had grown to around 100 classes in total, making it a very large elementary school. [1]

Building a Modern School

As the school grew older, parts of the campus needed to be rebuilt. A major rebuilding project began in 2006. The new building was named the Rainbow Building (彩虹樓) and officially opened in 2008. [1]

Another large rebuilding project began in 2014. New classrooms and a three-level underground parking lot were built. The new teaching buildings opened in 2017, along with a new sports field. [1][2]

DingXi Today

DingXi has continued to change with new ideas in education. In 2018, it joined New Taipei City's elementary school bilingual education program. The school has also added digital learning spaces and other modern classrooms. [1]

In 2024, DingXi celebrated its 70th anniversary. Today, the school continues to serve children and families in Yonghe while building on more than seven decades of history. [1]
