32 Partials

An ever growing and changing recording project rooted in experimentation.
Recordings and projects under the 32 Partials name are ones looking to experiment in composition and recording technique. All 32 Partials audio files can be found on BandCamp. All recording, mixing, mastering, and instruments played (unless otherwise noted) is done by me in my home studio.
This project was recorded during the summer of 2017. With my newly acquired 15 track tape machine, I set out to record and mix a series of songs in full analog.
These instrumentals are comprised with a foundation of drums, bass, and guitar. Each song started with an element which I would hold static throughout the piece, changing them ever so slightly. The experimentation then grew from the other instruments forming around this main element.
A main focus of mine was to experiment in recording technique and treatments of that recorded sound. Manipulation of the tape medium was used extensively throughout.
The second part of my In Degradation recording project was the emergence into the ambient and electroacoustic genre. This project is also rooted in the same principles as Part I being repetition and treatments.
While getting acquainted with more electronic instruments I wanted to retain my interaction with acoustic instruments such as guitar and accordion.
The origin of 32 Partials began on February 15th, 2016. The album was written and recorded in one day by my brother, Johnathan Georgaras, and me. All songs were improvised with myself on drums and my brother on synthesizer and my DIY Bass Pedals.
I recorded the album in analog on my 8-track tape machine. It was then mixed in my DAW.
Three songs were recorded and are featured on the album. The first, titled "1/3", is a soft introduction to the minimalist, droning style we were trying to achieve on the project. The second song, titled "2/3", is more up tempo with a driving 13/8 time signature and a cathartic bridge section with beautiful clustered chords. The last song we recorded was titled "3/3" which is our triumphant 10 minute exit to the project. This song has grown to be my favourite as it is a journey of complexity which goes into the chaotic.
Upon saving my Fostex 8-track tape machine and acquiring my former high school teachers 16 track console, I set out to make my first true analog recordings. Much like most of my compositions, these songs started purely upon experimentation in sound. All the instruments performed, recorded, and later mixed was all done by yours truly.
The first track is "457" which started off by me running the drum mics to the point of distortion on the tape machine. Pleased with the sound I was able to achieve, a bass line followed shortly after. Wanting to get more familiar with the tape medium I performed classic tape manipulation techniques such as reverse recording.
The second song is called "AZUL" which focuses more on a guitar composition of mine. This song is based upon guitar layering and track bouncing. As I was limited to 8-tracks, all my multitrack guitars needed to be bounced down multiple times to fit other instruments on the 8 tracks. This project taught me a lot out working efficiently with the tape medium.
Although it is my first recording project, I still hold these compositions close to my heart.
