Smoke beating down on my teary eyes.
Heaving forward to place my order in time.
Bright lights beaming across the street.
The deafening blare of car horns, prohibiting any sleep.
Ominous clouds begin to fill the sky
Matched only in depth by the hunger in mine.
A chilling rain starts to pour down.
Faces all around, nearly all had a frown.
A cluster of passersby to weave my way through
Hearing brief conversations in Tagalog and Urdu.
My empty stomach beating “Feed me, feed me.”
Had nothing all day but some crackers and green tea.
Groups of men huddled outside the watch store
But I know it’s just a front for poker and more.
Rotten scraps, gum and trash line the sidewalk
The musk of tobacco so strong I’m forced to cough.
Drenched and freezing I turn the final corner
Hulking across town has truly been a torture.
The glamorous neon lights seemed to pull me forward
As I enter the restaurant, my heart went off like a mortar.
The sharp crunch of salted fries, straight out of the kitchen,
The juicy explosion of well seasoned fried chicken,
A sip of my vanilla shake, beyond the confines of rich and sweet.
Food never tasted so good. Shake Shack cannot be beat.
