This activity covers an entire unit of work that I normally do with my students in the Fall semester. I wanted to incorporate more CSCS activities to increase engagement for my students and will be implementing this lesson next school year (2023-2024). It utilizes stop motion videos to view small sparks that appear when demonstrating why wintergreen mints spark. It also utilizes two different types of virtual card sorts through a collaborative google slide. This activity also practices the use of Desmos, Collaborative Google Forms, Collaborative Google Sheets, PHET simulations, and Scratch. Students are assessed throughout the unit with small formative assessments dispersed in each assignment. This culminates with students being able to construct and identify Bohr models in a PHET simulation as a form of summative assessment. Students are also expected to be able to explain why a glow star can glow with only some colors of light. I expect student engagement to increase as I have incorporated more student led activities in comparison to previous years but will be updating once the implementation has been completed.
