Dilantha Fernando, Plant Science, is the recipient of the USA/Sri Lanka Foundation 2006 Life Time Achievement Award. This award is given to an individual who has contributed to the world through exceptional scientific contributions and is the highest honor given by the Foundation which is based in Los Angeles, CA. This is the first time an agricultural scientist has won this award. Dilantha also received the Spot Award from United States Department of Agriculture for outstanding service to the US National Sclerotinia Research Initiative in support of continued development of management strategies to control white mold in multiple crops. He was also named a University of Manitoba 2006 Outreach Award winner. Dilantha also received the 2006 U of M's Graduate Teaching Award given to only one academic of the whole university at the spring convocation.
