For this assessment, we were asked to comment on other student's curated collections in either Padlet or Scoop.it. As I utilised Padlet for my collection, this platform collected the other Padlet's I commented on. This was very effective when I had to provide proof of my interactions. I did visit some of my peer's Scoop.it and reposted one of these into my Padlet. I did not record these at the time because I have no evidence. Something I will need to remember for next time.
The curated collections all centred around learning areas and how best to assist the students to utilise ICT so students can shift gears in their learning to higher-order thinking. Hailie Trigg had the only post that I found that looked at supporting the mental health of students. I found her insights to be a holistic approach to teaching.
I found it hard to scoop from other Padlets and Scoop.it as there was so much to choose from.
It is every teacher's responsibility to be involved in professional development to maintain their teacher's registration. AITSL Standard 6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice. This standard is crucial when choosing ICT to incorporate in the classroom. Teachers need to source relevant ICT platforms and learn how to use them first, before incorporating these into the classroom. Scooping and following peer's articles allows me to do my own research and professional development in my time when it is convenient. Scooping and following peer's articles allows me to do my own research and professional development in my time when it is convenient. Commonsense.org is also a great resource where teachers have written reviews about technology already utilised in their classroom.
AITSL standard 7.4 Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities. Teachers can link electronically into other peers globally, follow, support, collaborate and learn new ways to inspire students.
EDSE12024 Digital Technologies has been a definite eye-opener. I have seen technology utilised in various forms within the classroom. Now, I realise it is only being utilised in lower order thinking as a substitution for traditional teaching tools. Within this unit, I have learnt that technology has the power to transform students into 21st-century thinkers ready for future employment opportunities not yet created.
Technology in the classroom has the ability to reach all children as it is multimodal. There are multiple opportunities for the learning to be absorbed and understood. Allowing students the opportunity to express themselves through technology, will allow the student to express their own understanding of the learning making it an authentic learning experience that is student centred. Students have the capacity to learn best when they choose what to learn because they are interested in it.
