PRIVACY POLICY - dtCalendar
Effective Date: 17-Apr-2026
Last Updated: 22-Aug-2026
Digital Traditions Incorporated ("we", "us", "our") built the dtCalendar app ("the App") as a free application. This page informs users ("you") of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information.
What's new in this update: the App now shows optional, user-initiated rewarded video ads (watch an ad, unlock a temporary premium feature set) via Google AdMob. This section-by-section update explains exactly what that adds. Nothing else about the App's data practices has changed.
Information We Collect
Location Data
The App requests access to your device's location (fine and coarse) to:
- Determine your geographic coordinates for calculating sunrise/sunset times and panchangam (Tamil calendar) data
- Identify your country and region for displaying locally relevant public holidays
Location data is processed entirely on your device. We do not transmit, store, or share your location with any server or third party.
Notification Permissions
The App requests notification permissions to deliver panchangam event alerts (e.g., Raaghu Kalam, Yamagandam, Gulikai, and festival reminders such as Pournami, Ekadasi, and Pradosham) that you configure. Notification preferences are stored locally on your device.
Home Screen Image
You may optionally choose a personal photo as your home screen background from your device's photo library — on Android via the Android Photo Picker, on iOS via Apple's `PhotosPicker`. Both are single-image, permission-scoped pickers: the App does not request broad photo-library, storage, or camera access on either platform. The selected image is copied to the App's private storage on your device and is never uploaded, transmitted, or shared with Digital Traditions or any third party.
Advertising (Rewarded Ads)
The App includes an optional feature: you may choose to watch a short rewarded video ad, delivered by **Google AdMob**, in exchange for a temporary unlock of premium features (for example, a wider date-navigation range). This is entirely opt-in — ads never play automatically, and declining an ad has no effect other than keeping the App's free-tier limits.
When you choose to watch a rewarded ad, Google's AdMob SDK processes data on our behalf to select, serve, and measure that ad. Depending on your device, region, and consent choices, this can include:
- Your IP address and general (city-level) location derived from it
- Device information (device model, OS version, language, screen size)
- Advertising identifiers (Android Advertising ID only; the App does not request iOS's App Tracking Transparency permission or use your iOS advertising identifier — see "Advertising Identifiers & Your Choices" below)
- Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks, completion of the rewarded video) and diagnostics
We do not receive or store this data ourselves — it is processed by Google under Google's own privacy policy, linked below. The App's own local record of a rewarded unlock is limited to a timestamp of when your temporary premium window expires, stored on your device only (see "Data Storage").
We do not run banner, interstitial, or any other ad format — only opt-in rewarded video, at this time.
Permissions We Request
For full transparency, here is every permission/access prompt the App requests and why. Android and iOS use different permission models, so a few items below are platform-specific — marked accordingly.
- Location (fine and coarse on Android; "While Using the App" on iOS) — to calculate sunrise/sunset and panchangam times for your position, and to show locally relevant public holidays. Used on-device only, on both platforms.
- Notifications — to deliver the panchangam and festival alerts you enable.
- Exact alarms (Android only) — to fire those alerts at the precise times they are scheduled for. iOS schedules local notifications through Apple's own notification system, which doesn't require a separate permission for exact timing.
- Run at startup (Android only) — to restore your scheduled alerts after the device restarts; without it, your alerts would be lost on every reboot. iOS does not require or offer an equivalent permission — the OS handles this itself.
- Photos (Android Photo Picker / iOS `PhotosPicker`, both platforms) — only if you choose a personal home screen background. A single image you pick is copied to the App's private storage; the App does not request broad photo, storage, or camera access on either platform.
- Network/Internet access (both platforms) — needed for on-device location resolution (Android: Google Play Services; iOS: Apple's Core Location, which itself needs network for faster/assisted fixes) and for the optional rewarded-ad feature and its consent tooling to fetch and play an ad when you request one.
- App Tracking Transparency (iOS) — not requested. The App does not show the iOS ATT prompt because it does not use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) — see "Advertising Identifiers & Your Choices" below.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect personal information (name, email, phone number)
- We do not collect analytics or usage data of our own
- We do not transmit any data from your device to our own servers — we do not run any backend
- We do not show ads unless you actively choose to watch one (no automatic, forced, or background ads)
- We do not run banner, interstitial, native, or app-open ads — only opt-in rewarded video
The only third-party data processing the App triggers is the AdMob rewarded-ad flow described above, and only when you choose to start it.
Advertising Identifiers & Your Choices
- Android: You can limit ad personalization at the OS level via Settings → Privacy → Ads (or Google Settings → Ads on older devices) → "Delete advertising ID" or "Opt out of Ads Personalization." This applies to all apps on your device, including dtCalendar.
- iOS: The App does not request App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission and does not use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) for ad personalization. Rewarded ads on iOS are served as non-personalized ads.
- Google's own consent tooling (the User Messaging Platform) may present an additional consent prompt the first time you use the rewarded-ad feature, depending on your region (for example, EU/UK/EEA), so Google's ad-related data use complies with applicable local law.
- Declining ad consent, or opting out of ad personalization, does not block you from using any part of the App you could use before — it only affects whether the AdMob rewarded ad you optionally choose to watch is personalized.
Data Storage
All data (user preferences, notification rules, location cache, and the local expiry timestamp of a temporary rewarded-ad unlock) is stored locally on your device using standard on-device storage mechanisms (a local preferences store and a local SQLite database), on both Android and iOS. No data is synced to the cloud or backed up to external servers we control.
Third-Party Services
The App integrates with the following third-party services:
- Location resolution — on Android, via Google Play Location Services; on iOS, via Apple's Core Location framework. Both are used solely for on-device location determination — see [Google's Privacy Policy].
- Google AdMob (and Google's User Messaging Platform for consent, where applicable) — used solely to serve the optional rewarded video ad described above, only when you choose to watch one. Used identically on Android and iOS. See [Google's Privacy Policy] and [How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services].
- App store distribution — the App is distributed via Google Play (Android) and the Apple App Store (iOS); each store's own privacy practices govern your relationship with them as a platform, separate from the App itself.
We do not use any other third-party analytics, advertising, or data-processing service beyond what is listed here.
Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The App does not require any personal information to function. The App is not designed or marketed for children and does not run ads in Google's child-directed ("Ads for Families") mode; if you believe a child has used the ad feature inappropriately, contact us using the details below.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
