Dr. Jessica Cannon

Brief Bio

Dr. Jessica Cannon is an Associate Professor of History and the Instructional Design Liaison for the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Central Missouri. You can reach her at jacannon@ucmo.edu

In addition to a Ph.D. in American History from Rice University, Dr. Cannon is a Quality Matters Master Reviewer, has completed the Online Learning Consortium (OLC) Instructional Designer Certificate, and has completed courses on accessibility at Wichita State University and graduate instructional design coursework at George Washington University. She has also completed dozens of workshops and training programs focused on pedagogy, assessment, and varied instructional design topics through OLC, the AAC&U Values Rubrics (certified scorer for the critical thinking rubric), and Quality Matters. She has taught undergraduate, honors seminars, and graduate history courses in online, hybrid, and F2F formats at UCM since 2010.

In her current role for the college (equivalent to 1 course release), Dr. Cannon develops and leads workshops on pedagogy and instructional design for faculty; builds web-based faculty resources and training; leads both face-to-face and virtual training sessions for faculty; assists faculty one-on-one with course design or educational technology questions; builds web-based resources for students; has developed an internal quality assurance rubric for the college; and she designed and implemented a review process for online courses using the rubric she developed and partnering with peer reviewers in the college.
