DIGITAL SOCIOLOGY HACKATON

NAPOLI

Friday Evening, Concert at Riot Studio

Spaces with Wifi in Naples city center

Welcome to the website for the Digital Sociology Hackaton to be held at the Department of Social Sciences, University of Naples Federico II, June 19-22, 2019.

A hackaton is not a summer school. There will be no lectures and maybe just one or two quick talks. You will organize in groups to work collectively on data sets to meet research challenges. A number of ‘resident experts’ will be around –people with advanced skills in statistics and big data analysis, qualitative analysis of digital data, programming and research design. They will be there to give a hand. This is primary an occasion for people to improve and exchange skills and approaches. Some experience in using digital data and qualitative or quantitative software are desirable, but sheer dedication and willingness to learn might also suffice.

The Hackaton is free of charge. We have room for 30 participants. The event is primarily directed at Masters and PhD students and early career academics in the Social Sciences, Computer Science, Architecture, Management, Marketing and related disciplines. We also welcome professionals in market, media and similar research fields.

On these pages you will find practical information about the event.

To apply please consult the HowToApply page. We need your application on May 6 at the latest.

Data Policy: We have 4 datasets that people have brought to the Hackaton. These will be analysed by participants. The resulting analyses along with documented insights and results will be available to all participants who may use them freely for non commercial purposes, such as academic publications, art works etc. Participants are encouraged to bring their own research tools (software for data analysis etc) and to make them available to other participants as necessary to facilitate the work process.
