(tabletop roleplaying games)
We believe that storytelling taps into joy that is fundamental to the human experience.
Storytelling is as old as humanity itself and tabletop Roleplaying games (TTRPGs) tap into that age-old tradition by encouraging collaborative narratives through games. At their core, tabletop RPGs are a set of rules that allow participants to craft worlds together. Anyone who likes creating memorable characters, dramatic stories, and fantastic worlds will have a blast.
Players create their own character to inhabit, dictating their actions, feelings, and dialogue. The Game Master takes control of everything and everyone else. The narrative grows as the players interact with each other and the people and things that inhabit the world. Slowly the story and the characters develop and change becoming more powerful and complex the more time they are played.
Playing someone else helps you understand yourself.
Although the problems the characters face are fantasy the memories and the skills the players develop are real. One of the great things about RPGs is their ability to help us connect with different situations, people, cultures, and points of view. It's no surprise then that RPGs are used everywhere from schools to prisons to help mediate conflict and teach confidence, compassion, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
All you need is a group of people.
Traditionally, RPGs were played on a tabletop with pen and paper, a set of dice, a stack of rulebooks, and some character sheets. Though in many ways this is still the best format, one of the strengths of playing traditional RPGs online is that a computer and Game Master are all you need. Digital Dungeon Adventures hosts games via video conferencing software and freely available virtual tabletop website Roll20 so anyone anywhere with a computer can play.
