This a pay-what-you-want game with a sliding scale of $15-$25 a person. As of now, payments must be made at the end of each session via paypal, or venmo. Without a payment I cannot guarantee your participation in the next game. See Payments and Pricing for payment options.
Communication is primarily through discord (link will be sent upon acceptance). Voice is mandatory and I usually stream my video through Roll20 though this is not necessary for players.
Games run from 6:30 to 9:30 on every other Tuesday. I will let you know as soon as possible if I need to cancel for any reason and I expect the same courtesy from my players. Repeated last minute cancellations may result in a loss of standing.
Although I will try to address problematic behavior with communication and teamwork first, for the sake of myself and other players, I reserve the right to remove players from the game at any point for any reason.
All Characters begin at Level 1
Players are encouraged to consider being a native of the town of Saltmarsh and to use Saltmarsh Specific background which can be found HERE and below.
keep races, classes, and backgrounds to officially published WOTC content.
keep backstories vague to avoid contradicting canon and to make it easier to fold your character in to existing narrative beats. Consider the following prompts:
What is your ideal, bond, and flaw?
How do you see the civilized and natural world?
What type of settlement are you from?
How did you make your way in the world ?
Are you Native to Saltmarsh? If not, what brought you here?
Ghosts of Saltmarsh is an officially published WOTC dungeons and dragons fifth edition module. I will likely deviate from the exact story but will use the module as a skeleton from which we will build and fall back.
Ghosts of Saltmarsh takes place in the fishing town of Saltmarsh, in the Greyhawk setting, on the world of Oerth. Though it's good to use this to build backstories I may change things drastically. Of course your will be made aware of such changes and I will provide you with custom maps and such as we move forward.
This game will be focused on fun and incorporate a healthy mix of RP, combat, puzzles, and other elements please respect my rulings even if it contradicts a rule you know or it means the demise of your character.
The recently released "Ghosts of Saltmarsh" is an official WOTC collection of classic D&D maritime adventures from as far back as 1981, modernized for fifth edition. The story can be run as a series of self-contained adventures or as one continuous story arc. Ghosts of Saltmarsh takes place in the (in)famous setting of Greyhawk. Create by Gary Gygax himself to host his homegames, Greyhawk is generally a bit less of a fantasy menagerie than forgotten realms while placing more emphasis on realism and political events.
As a marine biologist, I am excited to run a campaign that largely takes place in the ocean. I also think this module is perfect for a West Marches style campaign. If this is the first time you've heard of "West Marches" style, it is a system with a large pool of players that form groups that decide if they want to participate in the next narrative arc on a rolling basis. This allows players to commit to smaller stretches of gameplay while still enjoying a cogent narrative.
I see each arc taking about 5 games to complete depending on the party's actions. I ask that each player prepare to play at least 5 games in a row when a new arc begins in order to maintain coherence.
