How Do You Ensure Equitable Digital Access in Your Classroom?
Technology is an important aspect in learning. It is a growing tool in the classroom. The main problem teachers face with technology is that they do not have the hardware in the classroom for all the students.
A few ideas so far...
· Teachers should make a schedule for use of computers, iPads, iPods, smartphones, cameras, and other tools.
· Teachers can make a rotation chart to make sure all students get a fair and equal amount of time using the technology resources.
· A timer may be set so the students can rotate accordingly.
· Place students in groups, assign them numbers, or place them alphabetically at a computer.
· A positive attitude is a must when using technology.
If there are not computers/iPads/cameras available in the classroom, some other ideas include:
· Letting students bring their own device from home
· Using a smartboard in the classroom to play games get the students engaged in the class
· Renting the computers/ipads from the school library to being to the classroom.
· Schedule a time for the whole class to visit the computer lab.
· Teachers can also apply for grants to get hardware in their classroom.
· Ask local businesses/churches to donate their old computers and laptops to the classroom.
There are many ways to get students involved and make sure they all have digital access.
