Cachemonet is an exercise in creating meaning from randomness. The output is always random and unique, and if a user spends any amount of time on the site, they are sure to find some combination which elicits a reaction. The user clicking the screen to advance to a new combination imbues the user with a sense of creation and responsibility for what appears on the screen. When it is compelling, you might sit with it a while, if it is uncomfortable or even offensive, you might click immediately to go to a new image. The image conjured by the click of the viewer may never have been seen before and may never be seen again. Cachemonet can also be seen as an evolution of Dada-ist practices and readymades in that many of the gifs featured are not original and were taken out of their original contexts and given new meaning by virtue of being in an "artistic" space. The deluge of random moving images for which we take to be meaningful art mark this piece as a clear successor to Duchamp and his infamous "fountain".
