How Does Diet Meal Delivery Work?
Diet meal delivery services in the United States have become increasingly popular, especially among health-conscious consumers and busy dieters looking to lose weight without all the hassles associated with traditional ways of dieting.
In addition to being very simple and highly convenient, many meal replacement diet delivery services can aid in the weight loss process while promoting healthy eating habits. They also make it easier to follow a healthy, balanced and nutritious diet.
This is how they work in general.
A dieter signs up with and pays for their chosen program and then takes delivery of a parcel of packaged meals. The number of meals depends on the company's plan which may be one week or as much as one month, as in the case of the biggest of these companies, Nutrisystem.
Meal packages generally contain breakfast, lunch and dinner meals with desserts and sometimes between-meal snacks that are all low in calories while being balanced in nutrition.
The idea is to take each meal, be it breakfast lunch or dinner at the appropriate time of the day and remove it from its packaging and prepare it as per instructions that are usually found on the packaging. The diet meals are designed to completely replace all your regular meals so you can completely control what you eat each day, limiting calorific intake as well as portion control.
Over a period of several days, you can weigh yourself and you should notice a reduction in weight as long as you have stuck to the diet and not eaten any "cheat" snacks or meals, or drank any sugary drinks during that time.
Do You Need a Diet Meal Program?
I'll get into the details about some of the top meal replacement diet programs in additional articles published on this site, but you should probably ask yourself if you really need the help of one of these programs to lose weight.
Can you possibly lose weight by taking a firm grip of your current eating habits and change them to be healthier and lower in refined, simple carbohydrates and added sugars?
If you can do that for yourself, then you probably don't need to spend money having someone else make your meals for you. If not, then maybe you do!
The top nationally delivering dieting programs in this category are Nutrisystem, Medifast and Jenny Craig, along with Diet to Go and Bistro MD. I'll review each separately (see below for page links).
To start with here is an external review that's recently been published for how one such company is preparing for the present day dieters:
