Blizzard announced the DLC during BlizzCon 2023 with a brief teaser trailer showing off a lush jungle location you might remember from Diablo 2. The setting of Vessel of Hatred is Nahantu, a fan-favorite location from Blizzard's 2000 action-RPG classic. Alongside the new location will be a brand new class "never before seen in the Diablo universe," although Blizzard has yet to confirm what that is. The expansion will "continue the dark tale that began in Diablo as we learn the fate of the Prime Evil Mephisto and his demonic plans for Sanctuary.

Blizzard didn't reveal a whole lot of specifics about the expansion aside from the new location, but production director Tiffany Wat did promise "new ways to play" as well as "new evils to vanquish" in the upcoming expansion.

Hellfire, often called Diablo: Hellfire, is an expansion pack for the video game Diablo, developed by Synergistic Software, a Sierra division, and published by Sierra On-Line in 1997. Despite the objections of Blizzard Entertainment, the Hellfire expansion was produced, permitted by Davidson & Associates, their parent company at the time. Blizzard North, who was developing the sequel Diablo II, thus imposed numerous restrictions upon Synergistic Software's development of Hellfire.[3]

Hellfire is a single-player expansion to Diablo. While there are some multi-player modes that can be unlocked, Hellfire is not playable on Blizzard's online gaming service Battle.net, and its changes do not transfer to online characters. However, the expansion does offer many new features as a single-player game, and also does not interfere with a user's ability to still play Diablo with Blizzard's service. Hellfire integrates into Diablo, and because of its design as an "optional, off-the-beaten-path foray", its dungeons can be avoided entirely.

The expansion pack adds several enhancements to Diablo, including two new dungeon settings (the Nest and the Crypt), additional quests to undertake, several extra game items (including oils which affect item statistics), runes that can be placed as traps, a new page of spells, new affixes for weapons and armor, new shrines, new mini-boss enemy names, a noticeable boost to Diablo's strength and power, and a number of interface improvements. The Monk was the only character class that Synergistic Software was permitted to add; the Monk class is meant to be proficient with the staff in melee combat, gains defense bonuses from lighter armor (but not heavier armor), and is more effective than other classes fighting barehanded (defying the standard RPG progression where a player character gets more powerful by picking up better equipment). There are also two hidden character classes, the axe-wielding Barbarian and the dual-wielding Bard, which can be played using a file tweak. As unfinished characters left in the game code as easter eggs, they utilize the art of the Warrior and Rogue, respectively, and have no lore.[6]

We can draw on our knowledge of Diablo 4 as well as our attendance at Blizzcon 2023 to give you the latest news on the Diablo 4 DLC release date. Previous expansions have introduced new Diablo 4 classes to completely change the meta, new items to give us excitingly powerful Diablo 4 builds, and encounters with Prime Evils not seen in the base game.

So I keep seeing videos and articles on Diablo 4s expansion costing 100 dollars. I took the survey that everyone refers to and while I don't remember the exact words I do remember having responded absolutely no to the 100 dollar expansion.

I also have not heard that they are actually going to be charging this price for the expansion anywhere. Is this just fear mongering? Are people just posting for click bait? (my Google feeds just catching up to it now)

There would be no way on this earth I would pay more than 40 for an expansion to a 70 dollar game. There is not a bonus content in this planet that would make it worth spending more than 40. And 40 better bring significant game additions to be with 40 dollars.

So eli5 am I missing something to the a Amonsgold coverage or these websites saying blizzard is charging 100 for any expansion because I don't see proof other than a stupid question which we all know was for whales to get a pigeon feed of cosmetics added to their accounts if they would pay 100 for.

Noticed GW2 has an expansion now, wondering thoughts on it? I kinda see the same type of threads Diablo 4 has but just wanna ask anyways. How is the new expansion, have you played Diablo 4 is it better or worse or what?

all in all: people love being negative, companies like blizzard kinda deserve the negativity after fiascos like diablo immoral, they had to hit a home-run on their next releases but i dont think they did. doesn't mean a game deserves a 0/10 rating though

As for the Gw2's expansion, I haven't bought it yet, and remain not buying it. But the main game and other expansions are still very playable. It of course depends on what you think of the rest of the game

If they had just said that the team providing critical bug fixes (resistances, network code) and QOL improvements (more stash space, loot filters etc) would include all of those fixes in the base game, even after expansions come out, no one would care about work on expansions.

The complaints over the season pass were substantial and the mixed opinions on the expansion are justified.

Many people feel fixing some things for people who already paid and waited for a game that only properly released in June this year is valid. Based on that, it is a fair statement.

Blizzard Entertainment has revealed that the first expansion for Diablo IV is called Vessel of Hatred, and it hits the game late next year. The Diablo team revealed this news over the weekend during BlizzCon 2023, which is also where we learned about three new World of Warcraft expansions and three new Overwatch 2 heroes coming to the game.

We might be able to glean just a little more from some recent datamines, which suggested an expansion called "Lord of Hatred" rather than Vessel of Hatred, but did center Mephisto. The datamine suggests new questlines, new gear, and new endgame activities, as well as a new class called "Spiritborn" and a mercenary system for NPC companions to fight alongside the player.

Datamines frequently include outdated or even inaccurate information, so it's possible all of the above is changed or not relevant by the time the actual Vessel of Hatred expansion rolls around. But it could be a useful clue to Diablo fans hungrily gobbling up details of what the Prime Evils of Hell are cooking up.

At BlizzCon 2023, Digital Trends spoke to Fergusson and Chris Wilson, production director, to get a better idea of what it takes to run a live service of this scale and how that informs the development of Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred and even the expansion beyond it, which we confirmed is also in active development with a dedicated team.

All of those learnings are things that the developers will have to keep in mind as they work on not just Season 3, but all 2024 seasons and the Vessel of Hatred expansion. Regarding the expansion specifically, Fergusson recognizes that it could appeal more to newer players or those more interested in the story rather than the broader live service. Still, he admits Blizzard will have to find a way for all those different kinds of players to be addressed in tandem as the team explores how seasons and expansions for Diablo will interplay.

Diablo 4's first expansion will arrive sometime late in spaceyear 2024, but it's also a throwback to Diablo 2. That's because Vessel Of Hatred is all about one of the Prime Evils, Mephisto, who auld players would have slain in that most-beloved of hack-and-slashers. It's also going to add a new character class "never before seen in the Diablo universe."

Blizzard may have turned Diablo 4 around in the last month, but there's still plenty of work to do before the release of its first expansion, Vessel of Hatred. BlizzCon's Diablo 4 Campfire Chat stream had surprisingly little to say about the action RPG's major remaining issues: dull itemization and a barren endgame.

The Diablo 4 team said it wants it to be easier to compare items and find things to do at level 100, but they weren't ready to discuss specifics. The focus for BlizzCon was the new expansion and Season 3, which will introduce leaderboards, weekly challenge dungeons, and a new level 100 seasonal event. Itemization, build and gear presets, and easier target farming for unique items were only briefly mentioned as plans for the future.

Diablo 4 players seem split on the whole thing. Some people want the base experience to improve before anyone starts talking about a new class and continued storyline, while others are desperate to play something new. But with Vessel of Hatred due to launch late next year, Blizzard should have time to fix Diablo 4's most critical issues, or at least start to build a solid foundation for what will be an annual expansion release cycle.

Rewind back to 1997: a year after the original Diablo launched on PC. Sierra actually developed an expansion for it called Hellfire, which added several new components in (most notably the Monk class, on top of the existing Warrior, Rogue, and Sorcerer) as a sort of side story.

He also remarked that the difference with Diablo 4, as opposed to past Diablo titles, is that the team is actively treating it as a live service game, hence why the developer is already thinking ahead to its far-flung content plans. Previous Diablo games have only ever had one expansion at most.

annuaL? the last thing d4 needs is to have a forced expansion every year. the whole thing thats killing games like cod and sports games is the forced annual releases. i am not shelling out 70 bucks every year for a d4 expac

agreed. expansions should be released when they are ready, not when the financial plan dictates. e24fc04721
