INDIANAPOLIS "THE STAGE"
The Titan DHawk 2028 squad went into this tournament short handed with only 5 players off the regular roster attending and one new Hawk, Max McCord who graciously joined the team this weekend.
Saturday: It took the team a while to figure out how to play together and we dropped both games on Saturday, but there was clear improvement from the first game to the second. After the games, the team and parents walked to the outdoor shopping center and then had dinner together and watched some NBA games at Buffalo Wild Wings.
Sunday: In the first game on Sunday, DHawk 2028 started to find their stride and won 67-44 over Full Package. In the second game of the day, the team battled, but fouls and fatigue finally caught up with the squad and we fell to 606 Elite 66-59.
"We are all about helping kids grow and improve. That happened this weekend. Kids were put in positions to contribute in ways they hadn't been asked to earlier in the season and they stepped up. Every kid got better this weekend."

In the second game, DHawk pulled out a 58-45 victory over Slam City Elite. In the nightcap, DHawk upset the host squad M14 Hoops 69-65 with some incredible effort, composure, and physicality.
Sunday: In the first game, the Hawks struggled to score against a much bigger Flight Athletics squad and fell 51-43. In the second and final game of the event, DHawk battled to a victory over a very talented Kessell Heat squad by a score of 62-55.

Kam Lindsay played a big role in the Hawks taking command of the game. Kam had 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting, and 8 rebounds in the contest. Grant Griesser and Parker Sanders paced the Hawks in the scoring column with 16 points each. Grant was 8 for 8 from the field and also had 6 rebounds. Parker was 6 for 11 from the field with 1 three pointer and 3/3 from the foul line. Colt Delimpo knocked down 5 three pointers to tally his 15 points in the game. Reed Rutledge added 7 points and 3 assists. Conner Morguson had 6 points and 2 assists. Russell Faulkner had 4 points, 4 boards, and 2 assists. Kam Lindsay had 2 points and 4 rebounds. They hit 7 of 11 (64%) free throws and outrebounded the Warriors 31-20. On the defensive side, DHawk held the Warriors to 13 of 45 (29%) shooting including 5 of 17 (29%) from the three point line.
In today's third game, DHawk 2028 earned a hard-fought win over the Indiana Bucket Boys 71-66. It was a game of runs, and the lead changed hands many times, but in the end the DHawks were too much for the team from the Hoosier state. Conner Morguson was on a mission in this game. His 33 points on 11 of 23 shooting, 5 made three pointers, and a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line led the way for the Hawks. Colt Delimpo was CLUTCH in this game. He went 6 for 7 from deep and 1 for 1 from the free throw line. Three of his six three pointers came late in the game and his last one from the deep corner sealed the win. Reed Rutledge added 11 points (including 2 from beyond the arc and 3 for 3 from the charity stripe). Reed also had 5 assists and 2 boards. Grant Griesser added 5 points and 8 big rebounds. Parker Sanders had 3 points. Brady Skidmore had 5 rebounds. Kam Lindsay had 1 rebound and 1 assist. Colton Hembree had 1 rebound. Russell Faulkner had 3 rebounds. Overall, DHawk went 23 of 54 (43%) from the field including 14 of 35 (40%) from the three point line. They were 11 of 12 (92%) from the free throw line and outrebounded Indiana 31 to 27. On defense, DHawk held Indiana to 28 of 65 (43%) shooting, including 8 of 26 (31%) from three. Indiana was 2 of 6 (33%) from the charity stripe.
All in all, this was a great day for DHawk 2028. Several players stepped up their game and contributed in ways they hadn't yet this season. Some players showed a toughness and resolve when things got tough and found ways to make winning plays even when things weren't going their way. The squad is starting to become an actual team rather than a collection of individuals. They are learning each other's games, strengths, and tendencies and how they can work together to become a really high level unit. It's a lot of fun to watch them grow together... especailly when they're figuring out ways to win along the way.
Tomorrow, DHawk 2028 will take on 606 Elite in the final four of the tournament. The game will be back at Mid-American East on Court 1 at 12:20pm.

DHawk 2028: Battle of the Boarders - Louisville
On Saturday, DHawk opened up the pool play with a loss to a tough and athletic City Basketball-Black team. In the second game of the day against Lex Elite, DHawk got down by 15 but then jumped into a 2-2-1 press and cut the lead to 3, but time ran out before they could get a shot off. The Hawks were without starting point guard Reed Rutledge and Coach Eric Rutledge for these opening day games. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family during this time of loss. It was a tough day, but a learning experience for the team and we will be better prepared the next time we are a man down.
On Sunday, DHawk 2028 opened up tournament play with an 8:00am win over Team Chaos by a score of 64-43. In the second round, the Hawks dominated Team HLB with a convincing 77-29 win and advanced to the Silver Bracket Championship Game where they faced the Shelby Stars. The Hawks fell behind by 14 points before making a run fueld by some inspired play from Russell Faulkner. The DHawks tied the game up at 52-52 with less than a minute to play, but the Stars hit two free throws to take the lead, and the last second heave by the DHawks fell short. Stats for the Championship Game: Parker Sanders led the team in scoring with 18 points. Conner Morguson added 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Brady Skidmore had 6 points and 7 rebounds. Russell Faulkner had 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Reed Rutledge had 3 points and 6 assists. Kam Lindsay had 2 points and 2 rebounds. Grant Griesser had two rebounds. Charlie Ellison had a rebound and an assist. Colton Hembree had one rebound. Overall, the DHawks shot 20 for 54 (37%) from the floor, including 8 for 29 (28%) from the three point line. They were 4 for 8 (50%) from the free throw line.
"We lost one game by three points, and another game by two. We didn't play like we can and we were still just a couple of plays away from being 4-1 instead of 2-3. We are still learning how to play together as a team and we will get better as the season moves forward. We have lots of room for improvement, but I'm proud of our team and look forward to the next tournament."
The team will take Easter weekend off to celebrate with their families. Their next tournament is schedule for April 5-7 when they will travel back to Louisville for their first Prep Hoops Next Circuit tournament of the season, The Heartland Kickoff.

Charlie Ellison had 2 points. Grant Griesser didn't score but had 4 boards. Kam Lindsay added a rebound. Overall, DHawk went 24 of 53 (45%) from the floor, 14 of 28 (50%) from the three point line, and 6 of 8 (75%) from the free throw line. The Pumas went 17 for 37 (46%)from the field, 5 of 24 (21%) from the three, and 17 of 21 (81%)from the free throw line. (Yes, we did have to overcome a HUGE discrepancy from the free throw line to secure this win.)
In the Championship Game, DHawk took down the Westside Panthers by a score of 64 to 56. Conner Morguson WENT OFF in the championship game scoring 40 points on 13 of 17 shooting, 5 of 9 from three, and 9 of 10 from the charity stripe. It was an incredible performance. When many players on both teams were showing signs of fatigue, Conner's motor was still going full throttle. Parker Sanders had 15 points, 2 assists, and a steal. Reed Rutledge added 5 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Kam Lindsay had a HUGE game with 4 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocked shots, and several deflections to stop the pick and roll that had been hurting us all game long.
