Yes, it did. Here's my confession or whatever the term would be.
Back in a july of 2024 update I added several folders to the mod with scary malware looking names intended to scare leakers, however that was not enough, i also went on github and looked up filenames of actual malware files and meticulously made probably 80-100 txt files with scary names, inside the txt files were some racial slurs and basically an i got you haha.
These files were in the mod for months, doing it's intended job as I monitored leaking subreddits etc, no one really made a fuss.
Every time a normal user asked, the fake files intended to scare leakers situation would be explained to them by me or my friends.
However, in early December 2024, users in the leaked subreddits brought attention to the fake files, thinking they were real.
My intention was only to scare leakers with fake files, however I did not consider the following:
That legit paying customers will be just as scared of the fake files as the leakers because as fake as they are from the inside, no ones gonna open them up to see if the files are fake, they'd likely just delete the whole mod and no average normal user is gonna be tech savvy enough to know the files had no way of actually activating if they had been real (going by the filenames).
I for sure didn't consider that the whole situation sets up a perfect opportunity for me to add real malware, having normal users believing the files are fake. I didn't consider it because I had no malicious intent. Regardless, I understand that my dumbass actions do have consequences and some people will just never trust me again, never buy my mods and will always virus check if they do use them. My reputation as a whole might take a huge downer, and it's my own fault for not thinking about what I was doing and what the actual outcome would be. I would If I could go back and slap the shit out of myself. Besides, giving someone malware fake or not is not gonna change their stance on paid mods and make them do the right thing. But hindsight is 2020.
Most importantly, I didn't consider that maybe I gave way too many fucks to these leakers. I cared so much about the leakers leaking my mods that if I put half that care into improving my modding skills, making more, better mods for those good people out there who actually appreciate my work, I might be a millionaire. It was ultimately disrespectful to those good people in question to do something like this in the first place, and for that I sincerely apologize; even tho I know the damage is already done.
The reason I cared so much about leaking was never about losing money, I always made plenty and still do, I just felt disrespected personally and it spiraled down an egotistical hole of trying everything i can to stop the leakers. I was too stupid to realize that it's inevitable and will happen no matter what one does and that I was giving my fucks to the wrong people.
That being said, this leaking shit has taken too much enjoyment out of modding for me and going forward i'm gonna care about my customers and fans first and foremost. As of v5.4.3, there is NO fake malware, nor real malware in the mod. I've put a lot of effort into fixing the countless bugs that added up to an overall shitty mod, I hope I've done a good job and I hope you can forgive me for my colossal fuck up but I understand not everyone will.
