One Easy Step to a Greener Lawn
Do you have a lawn and do you like to see it green? Yes, silly question. Do you want a free, no extra work solution? The ultimate challenge for home owners is to have green lawn as long as possible during the year and with the least amount of work.
One super easy, yet critical part of this challenge is to make sure you do not cut the grass too short. You see, the top half of a 3-inch-long blade of grass is green, and the bottom half is white or pale green. If you are always cutting your grass at 1 inch long or less (too short) you will always see whiteish or pale green grass for much of the year.
The easy solution is to raise up your lawnmower deck so you cut your grass down to about 2 inches and just like that, you will see greener grass in your lawn.
Walk around your neighbourhood and confirm that the greenest lawns are cut at about the 2 inch or longer length. Conversely, the poor yellow or brown looking lawns are the ones cut too short. They also have more weeds.
There are other benefits of cutting your grass to the correct length:
1. The taller your grass, the deeper the roots go down.
2. The deeper the roots go down, the easier it is for the grass to get the moisture it needs (which means less watering).
3. The taller grass shades and chokes out competing weeds, so less weeds in your grass and less work to control weeds.
4. The proper length cut produces more grass shoots and a denser, greener lawn.
Don't buzz cut your lawn to the ground.
