WELCOME TO THE NEW CADET WING WEBSITE
The new wing staff was just announced for the Spring 2022 Semester! All of these positions were appointed by our Wing Commander, Cadet Hofmann. The Vice Wing Commander will be Cadet Rodgers, the Operations Group Commander is Cadet Almquist, the Mission Support Group Commander is Cadet Sweeney, and the Inspector General is Cadet Ferenczhalmy. Congratulations to the new Wing Staff on their positions and good luck to everyone in the new semester!
At Leadership Lab this morning, Cadet Hofmann was named the new Cadet Wing Commander for the Spring 2022 semester! C/Hofmann has only a month to prepare for the spring semester, including making a whole new wing structure, but we are very confident in his abilities. We look forward to seeing C/Hofmann's leadership this spring!
(Meet Our Wing Staff will be updated when the Wing Staff is announced)
This week, General Lyman, an alumnus from Detachment 550, came to campus this week to meet with us. General Lyman graduated from RPI in 1993 with a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, and he is the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Cyber Effects Operations at the Pentagon. Cadets got the chance to talk to a Brigadier General during Leadership Laboratory and hear many stories from his past in the Air Force. As well as, sit in on a cyber security briefing that was open to all of campus, and then have lunch and have a Q&A with him while they ate.
This was an enriching experience for all of our cadets. General Lyman's visit gave the detachment much to learn from, and a lot to be inspired by!
This week, our seniors, the AS400 class, received the jobs that they will be performing on entering the Air Force! This is exciting news and we wish the AS400 class on their future Air Force careers!
This past Friday, Det 550 drove up to Fort Drum to compete against the five other AFROTC detachments in New York! It was a fun weekend for the cadets and we all had an amazing time! We tied for first place in the Sidewinder (drill) competition and took second place in the Confidence Course competition! Although we wanted to win, congrats to Det 538 (RIT) for winning the competition. Look out for Det 550 next year!
Det 550 was invited to the Army ROTC Ranger Challenge this past weekend. As the only Air Force Detachment there, we competed with the hope of beating at least one Army unit. We crushed that goal and beat quite a few of the Army units in attendance, as well as the Coast Guard Academy! Congrats to those that went and can now wear Ranger Challenge tabs on their uniforms!
Det 550 hosted its first AFROTC Cadet Orientation Program (ACOP)! We welcomed many of the new AS100s and AS250s into the detachment with a 2.5 day orientation program meant to help build teamwork, camaraderie, and introduce new cadets into the AFROTC program. Congratulations to C/Hofmann, our Training Squadron commander, for putting together this amazing event!
The new wing staff was just announced for the Fall 2021 Semester! All of these positions were appointed by our Wing Commander, Cadet Sweeney. The Vice Wing Commander will be Cadet Straub, the Operations Group Commander is Cadet Ferenczhalmy, the Mission Support Group Commander is Cadet Almquist, and the Inspector General is Cadet Rodgers. Congratulations to the new Wing Staff on their positions!
This afternoon, Cadet Sweeney was named the new Cadet Wing Commander for the Fall 2021 semester! C/Sweeney has the whole summer to prepare the detachment to return to some sense of normalcy after an unusual year and a half. We look forward to seeing C/Sweeney's leadership this fall!
