i5 Space is a national student organization that operates in conjunction with the U.S. Space Force’s Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM) to encourage cadets to learn more about the Space Force and its amazing opportunities. i5 aims to deliver educational, training, and professional development resources to students around the country who are interested in pursuing a career in the newest branch of the US military—the Space Force. Through professional development programs and exposure to the space leadership culture, i5 members engage in opportunities to build skills within and understanding of the space domain, leading to the commissioning of more effective and aware military officers.
Our detachment, the Lt Col James E. Cooper Squadron at UCF, focuses on professional development and networking opportunities to enhance our understanding of the Space Force. We have attended conferences, such as the Space Power Conference and Space Week, here in Orlando, organized base visits, such as a visit with the 645th Cyberspace Squadron in Cape Canaveral and Patrick SFB for their 3D printing workshop, and trips to Kennedy Space Center, and met with guest speakers. Recently, i5 had the opportunity to speak with Colonel Holston and Colonel Jackson via Zoom to learn more about the upper workings of the Space Force and advice for incoming lieutenants. We have biweekly meetings to discuss current events and organize new events to learn about Space Innovation.

Honor Guard is a military formation that renders honors when the National Anthem is played, passing in review during a parade, or in other events that require a flag detail. At Detachment 159, we can train any cadet, regardless of experience, to become a skilled member of the Color Guard team.
Our Honor Guard, led by Cadet Matthew Horton, participates in a variety of events, including retirement ceremonies, athletic games, and city parades. The team provides services such as Color Guard and POW/MIA ceremonies, which assist our cadets in improving their formal drill skills. In addition, it promotes awareness for the detachment and contributes to the community. The Honor Guard has participated in several events, including a Colonel retirement ceremony, a professional volleyball game, the Cure Bowl, and more.

The Robert M. White Silver Wings Chapter is a service organization that promotes leadership, military awareness, career opportunities, and professional development.
This year, Silver Wings has been focusing on growing and strengthening our organization so that it continues to be present and create positive impact on our community both within and outside UCF. The unit continues to recruit new members from within Detachment 159 as well as the general student body from UCF. This gives civilians who are interested in military operations and supporting the military an opportunity to learn to make a positive impact.
