Outreach
From the end of 2021 to the Summer of 2022, I worked with the City of Starkville and the J.L. King Center (located in Starkville, MS) to educate the surrounding public about erosion and pollution issues seen in three local cemeteries (Odd Fellows University, Odd Fellows 182, and Brush Harbor).
Throughout this project, I conducted multiple weekends of field work where I collected data on erosion localities and rates and collected images of the said issues.
Results from this project were presented in two ways:
Presenting a poster and lecture to an after school program at the J. L. King Center.
*Creating a “Local Cemeteries” section within an ArcGIS StoryMap that includes all projects focused on community engagement for that year.
*This project was a result from a Senior class at Mississippi State University that was focused on finding ways to engage the surrounding community with Geosciences.
