The students have access to an 80Watt laser engraving and cutting system with a bed size of 2x3 ft which supports the following :
Lexan, PVC, Styrene, Polyesters, PET films, Polypropylene, Vinyl, Glass, Metal — as well as any materials not included on the list of acceptable materials above.
Make sure you are using metric units( millimetre, centimetre, metres ) only, especially while exporting the file.
Vectors that are to be cut or engraved should be marked in different colours. More colours may be added if different cut or engrave settings are needed.
For Engraving, make sure that all your vectors are closed, that is no open paths exist.
When using AutoCAD explode and OVERKILL the drawing.
When using Illustrator, run Unite function under Pathfinder and add an outline.
Export your file in DXF Format.

We allow approved graded materials only — typically Pine MDF, Grade A acrylic, Sunboard and Felt. No Metals, PVC, or unknown plastics are allowed. Check with lab if you're unsure about your material
We accept only vector files in formats like .AI, .SVG, .DXF, and .PDF. Make sure your files are clean vectors with properly assigned cut and engrave lines. Items to be engraved should be closed vectors marked in a different colour than those shapes that are to be cut.
It depends on the complexity and size of your design. Engraving takes longer than cutting. We recommend checking you cut time in either RD Draws or Lightburn if you're on a tight deadline.
Yes, laser cutting is by appointment only. Walk-ins are not guaranteed.
Yes. First-time users must complete a basic workshop before operating the machine. Alternatively you may contact someone from the lab to cut your Design.
