It is quite remarkable that Seiichi Miyake invents Tactile Tile in 1965, to help a friend navigate the visual impairment that the friend was having. It was then used in other Asian cities, particularly the mass transit and now an international standard, particularly common in the mass transit facilities.
The need for Inclusive Design in our cities and public infrastructure is crucial, so that the weakest of our society can traverse the most vital infrastructure of our built forms with confidence and with ease. As we progress from tactile in the 60's to the most recent accessibility design in our society, we have come a long way and yet there will be more to do.
