Class Discussion:
· “What Native American Peoples reside in Lincoln County?” (refer to map)
· “How can you make sure to pick a research site that respects local Native American lands?”

You have practiced your skills in one valley (Coal Valley). Now, expand your search to all of Lincoln County. For your final report, you will use Google Earth to identify a unique research site (not Coal Valley) and create a proposal to describe your reasoning and your research methods.
Click on the link to the left to access Google Earth online.
Use the SEARCH function. Type in Lincoln County, NV to fly to your region.
Using what you learned in previous sections, can you identify features in the landscape are evidence of the resources human beings need to survive? Zoom in and Zoom out. Identify a unique location for your research group to explore.
NOW PULL IT ALL TOGETHER. Create a RESEARCH PROPOSAL for your work in LINCOLN COUNTY.
Click on the link to the left to access the Lincoln County Research Proposal template. Use the template to create your own RESEARCH PROPOSAL. A RESEARCH PROPOSAL is created by the researcher to
describe goals of their research (what they hope to find out),
why it is important,
how they will go about conducting their research (their methods),
and what they need to get the job done.
Often, the proposal is submitted to apply for money to do their research. It is also submitted to make sure that the research is being conducted safely and with little harm to the environment.
Then, use Google Slides or PowerPoint to create a 3-minute RESEARCH PRESENTATION that you will share in class to the Research Committee. The Research Committee will evaluate your proposal on:
Organization: Is your proposal well-structured and easy to understand? Is it visually appealing? Does it make good sense?
Justification: Are you proposing research that is based on evidence from the region? For example, did you select a test site based on evidence of ancient human activity? The committee wants to make sure that you know your stuff, so that they know whether or not to give you money for your project.
Feasibility: Does your research seem "doable?" Are you proposing a project that makes sense and can be accomplished with the research methods and location you propose in a reasonable amount of time?
When your RESEARCH PRESENTATION is complete, use the Research Committee's feedback to revise your ideas in the next section.
