The leatherback sea turtle is a large reptile that calls the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans home. They can be found on any coastline in North America. They are members of the Dermochelyidae famiy. These immense creatures are often times victim to bycatch, or unintended capture, vessel strikes, habitat loss or change, pollution and rarely, harvested for consumption. The leatherback turtle is vastly important in the marine food web. Some staples of their diet include jellyfish, seaweed, and algae.
