The DPMS Dance Team is an inclusive team to any member who wishes to participate, and all members will perform in all game day and sidelines routines. The team will be performing for Varsity football and basketball halftime shows as well as competing in WACPC competitions in the winter months.
Do I need any dance experience to join the team?
-Basic dance experience is always great, but also not necessary! We work hard as a team to catch each dancer up on skills as well as taking a technique class as a team to get tips and tricks. We also use choreography to our advantage and might put a group of newer dancers doing a single turn as well as a group of experienced dancers doing more challenging skills. The great thing about being on a dance team is we can showcase each individual in fun and unique ways!
Basic skills to be practicing that we will use in routines:
singles and double turns
toe touches
leaps
splits
kicks/kick sequences
What is involved for financial obligations?
-There is a $350 fee to join the team as each dancer needs shoes, tights, warm ups, costume pieces, and the camp fee. Veteran members will be given the option to reuse past items and deduct the cost from the joining fee or sell shoes, etc to newer members if they outgrow them. Please don't hesitate to reach out to Coach Steph if cost is an issue.
Can I be involved in other sports/studio classes while doing dance?
-Absolutely. Studio dance classes are absolutely recommended as long as they can be worked around scheduled practice times and are really great to continue and help progress skills! Dancers may also be a part of other sports as well if they do not interfere with practice, performance or competition times/dates. (see information handbook for more info on attendance.)
