Biodiversity is recognized as a cornerstone of a healthy, happy, prosperous and sustainable society. It includes the variety of living species on the Earth- animals, plants, fungi, and even microorganisms. Each of these group of and organisms work together to maintain balance in ecosystems and support life. The Department of Zoology, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women is involved in the survey of the faunal diversity to determine the range/number of species, and distribution of fauna in the institution. The objectives of the Campus Faunal Diversity Survey are to:
Investigate the existing biodiversity of the college campus
Draw attention to the importance of a biologically diverse ecosystem
Encourage teachers and students to learn, appreciate and support local biodiversity
Encourage student participation in caring for the college campus and the environment
Promote exchange of information and expertise in enhancing biodiversity in the college
