Before assuming his duty as Lecturer (Unconfirmed) in Sociology at the Department of Sociology, University of Jaffna, he worked as Lecturer (on contract) at the Department of Sociology, University of Colombo and a Resource Person at the Human Right Centre of the University of Colombo.

He has obtained a special degree in Sociology with the first class from the Department of Sociology, University of Jaffna. In addition, he received the University Prizes for being the best students on the special degree examinations. Further, he has completed a postgraduate degree of M.A in Sociology at South Asian University, New Delhi, India, and is pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Sociology at the same University, where he was awarded a merit scholarship for his masters and doctoral degrees.

Further, he has done a considerable amount of research and publications at nationals and international levels especially in the field of war and social conflicts, youth and women empowerment, migration and urban-rural communities, disabilities, and social resilience.
