About

The department was established in the year 1988 when the college went into an expansion mode and a biological science section came into being. The primary objective of the department is to impart knowledge about the most important component of our environment, the plants. Department offers a general course in B.Sc. along with its sister departments; Physiology and Zoology.

First faculty member was recruited in the year 1989 and at present department is served by one full time and one part time teacher. Due to limitation of space, departmental laboratory is utilized by three colleges on a time sharing basis. This has so far kept the departmental academic scope rather limited but with acquisition of more space in near future, we look forward to introducing Honours in Botany. Nonetheless, the infrastructural constraints have never stopped us from making efforts to bring the best to our students and to follow the altruistic path shown by Pandit Iswarchandra Vidyasagar, the founder of the College.
