The DMS Summer Literacy Challenge offers students the opportunity to expand their learning through books and a variety of media platforms. All students in Grades 6-8* are expected to read at least TWO books of their choice.
We know that reading is its own reward, so when students return to school in September, they will be asked to share some of their favorite titles and takeaways with their peers. But we also know that students may want or need additional challenges over the summer (along with rewards and recognition upon returning to school). Therefore, we are providing a tic-tac-toe board containing several activities students may choose to complete.
Students are encouraged to submit tic-tac-toe boards** (and all artifacts) the week we return to school, August 5th-12th. For every winning tic-tac-toe board (up to 8 combinations) submitted, students will be entered into a grade-level raffle. We will pull winners from each grade level to receive special privileges and prizes the following week.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school librarian Sarah Pellerin at spellerin@richland2.org.
Happy Reading!
*Students enrolled in TLC and English 1 have a different summer reading assignment; please contact your teacher for more details.
**Paper copies of tic-tac-toe boards will be available to students upon return to school.
