Denise provided the Town of Blacksburg, VA cross-departmental coaching and team building on whole systems design considerations to improve infrastructure development. She focused on the Envision® guidance and rating system for sustainable infrastructure which addresses concepts including resource conservation, environmental preservation, risk mitigation, and more. Envision promotes planning and design practices that consider the triple the triple bottom line – the social, environmental, and economic impacts and benefits – as well as all phases of the infrastructure life cycle. The presentation and group exercises focused on the impact each municipal department can have on the success of a project and the value of collaboration.
Denise provided Fairfax County, VA staff training for the Envision Sustainability Professional credential. Denise one of the few trainers in Virginia approved by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure to deliver the in-person version of the training curriculum. Twenty-three staff members from Public Works and Environmental Services, Vehicle Services, Parks and Recreation, and other infrastructure related departments attended the one day training session and follow on half day exam. The focused on learning about the Envision rating system for sustainable infrastructure and how to incorporate the sustainability principles into project work via group exercises. All attendees successfully passed the exam to earn the credential and now consider Envision principles in project development.

Served as the first third-party expert to verify a project for an Envision award.
Willert Park Green Infrastructure Envision Support, Buffalo Sanitation Authority, Buffalo, New York.
Provided services to prepare the verification application for the Envision sustainable infrastructure rating system for a road diet project that included construction of a tree-lined, ten-foot wide, multi-use path, a substantial green buffer separating pathway users from automobile traffic, stormwater drainage improvements, and a generous strip of parkland to sustain the river bank. Led design team in the assessment of the design and preparing the verification application and documentation. Manage the verification review process and received a Bronze award.

Provided services to prepare the Envision verification application for a project to revitalize a neighborhood corridor with safe sidewalks, a multi-use trail, and decorative architectural features to reflect the local culture, among other features. Completed assessment of the design and prepared the verification application and documentation. Manage the verification review process and received a Bronze award.
