I am Dr. Denise Mac Giolla Ri, an educator, researcher, and AI champion dedicated to innovative and inclusive teaching in higher education. My work is grounded in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and co-production methodologies, ensuring that learning environments are equitable, creative, and future-focused. I specialise in integrating technology, visual pedagogy, and creative practice within social care and early years education, fostering critical engagement and professional development.
With over 20 years of experience at Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), I lead the Creative Arts and Recreational Streams (CRS) team and have played a pivotal role in embedding creative pedagogies across social care and early years programmes. I work as an AI Champion in collaboration with the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation and Development (CPID) and N-TUTORR to advance AI literacy and support the ethical integration of AI in education.
Since 2020 until 2025, I have served as Vice Chairperson of the Creativity and Innovation in Social Care Network (CISC), supporting knowledge exchange and capacity building around creative and innovative practices in the field. I am also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA, 2025), recognising my sustained record in teaching excellence and leadership.
Additionally, I am a Programme Board Member of the PATH 4 funding initiative, supporting the design of an inclusive Level 6 programme for learners with intellectual disabilities, in line with my deep commitment to widening participation and accessible education.
My work spans teaching, research, and policy, and includes delivering workshops, publishing on AI and creativity in education, and developing practitioner resources. Key initiatives include an AI eBook, AI Play Clinics for educators, and the development of fact sheets and short courses on AI literacy. I also contribute nationally as a member of the HEA AI Advisory Committee and the Digital Technologies Working Group, informing the development of AI-related educational policy.
This e-portfolio highlights my ongoing contributions to AI in education, creative pedagogy, and curriculum innovation. I invite you to explore my work and connect with me to discuss collaborations, ideas, and the evolving role of AI in learning and teaching.
