Two months later, Tanjiro has a dream about his ancestor's encounter with a Demon Slayer from the past that saved their family and wore the same earrings as Tanjiro, before waking up from a coma, still recovering from his injuries while Zenitsu and Inosuke are summoned to individual missions. Because his swordsmith Hotaru Haganezuka had refused to forge him a new sword due to Tanjiro breaking his previous ones, Tanjiro is told to meet him at the Swordsmith Village to discuss the matter with him in person. He arrives with Nezuko and meets the Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and the village's chief Tecchin Tecchikawahara, who assures Tanjiro he will bring Hotaru back to build the sword.

Hotaru was born from a long line of swordsmiths from the Haganezuka Clan.[10] When he was two years old, Hotaru was so horrible to deal with that his parents had a mental breakdown[2] and the village's chief, Tecchin Tecchikawahara, had to raise him.[11] The chief gave Hotaru his first name, which Hotaru does not like, because it sounds too cute and he would often badmouth the chief about it. According to the chief, he had been having a temper since he was a child, and would always throw tantrums right away and then go off somewhere.[10]

During this period the village is attacked by two Upper Rank Demons. Upper Moon Five, Gyokko, enters the shed where Hotaru is working on the blade and slashes Kozo who desperately shields Hotaru from the Demon. Unaware of their presence, Hotaru continues to fixate himself on refining the blade. When Gyokko calls out to him, Hotaru does not respond and continues muttering about the eccentricity of the blade, a level of concentration that astonishes Gyokko. Jealous of Hotaru's fixation for his craft, Gyokko slashes him multiple times, causing Hotaru's mask to fall off his face from the attack and revealing his face. Kozo tries to snap Hotaru out of his trance, with Gyokko summoning fish Demons and continue to attack Hotaru, the swordsmith still did not break his continuous persistence and keeps sharpening the blade silently.[19] This greatly infuriates Gyokko, who continues to inflict numerous severe injuries on Hotaru, including the loss of an eye. Muichiro arrives and attacks Gyokko, who then destroys the shed with his Blood Demon Art. Hotaru is knocked outside from the attack, but pays no mind to it as he returns to sharpening the blade. His stubborn persistence puzzles the Demon who believes Hotaru is not sane. Gyokko tells himself he will finish the swordsmith after taking out the Hashira first.[20]

Master Swordsmith: Hotaru is a skilled swordsmith, able to forge Nichirin Swords and repair it multiple times each time it broke in battles against demons. After Tanjiro chipped his sword in his battle against Upper Rank Six, Hotaru trained more to make a stronger sword. Hotaru demonstrated his professionalism and expertise when he polished and sharpened the 300-year-old blade left in Yoriichi Type Zero while completely ignoring the wounds he received from Gyokko.[19] The polishing techniques he used has been passed down the Haganezuka line for many generations.[2] His method is so severe that other swordsmiths have died from them.[23]

To safeguard the village from Demon attacks, strict measures are taken to keep the place concealed and its exact location is kept confidential. Demon Slayers who wish to visit the village must travel blindfolded, with their ears and noses plugged, while piggybacking a Kakushi, to prevent information from being leaked to the demons. After some time, the travelers are passed from one Kakushi to another. Furthermore, the routes and Kakushi themselves are frequently changed. Even the Kakushi who transport the travelers remain unaware of the village's precise location. Guided by Kasugai Crows, each Kakushi is directed to the next in line, although even these crows are switched constantly.[1]

Within the village, one can find bustling foundries and workshops dedicated to the meticulous craft of forging and repairing Nichirin Swords, the essential weapons of Demon Slayers. Accompanying these workspaces are the residences where the skilled swordsmiths live in.[2] Additionally, the village houses a collection of mechanical training dolls, including Yoriichi Type Zero, designed specifically to aid Demon Slayers in honing their combat skills.

Following the intense battle against Upper Rank Five and against Upper Rank Four, the village underwent a swift relocation to a new hidden location. The Demon Slayer Corps had strategically prepared multiple vacant villages for such circumstances, allowing for a rapid relocation in case of emergencies. With the looming threat of further demon attacks at nightfall, there was little time for mourning the losses. Despite the assault by two Upper Moons and many casualties, the village itself sustained minimal damage.[5][6]

In a rage, Muzan Kibutsuji summoned the remaining Upper Demon Moons to the Infinity Castle, and after expressing his rage at their failures, sent Gyokko and Hantengu to find and annihilate everyone at the Swordsmith Village. Back at the Butterfly Mansion, the demon slayer trio is already awake, and Zenitsu and Inosuke are sent on different missions, while Tanjiro focuses on rehab.

When Tanjiro's swordsmith, Hotaru Haganezuka, declines to forge Tanjiro a new sword, he is instructed to rendezvous with him at the Swordsmith Village for a face-to-face discussion. With Nezuko in tow, Tanjiro encounters the village chief, Tecchin. The chief assures Tanjiro that he'll retrieve Hotaru to forge the sword. Tanjiro discovers the village hot springs and subsequently came in contact with Mitsuri Kanroji, Muichiro Tokito, and Genya Shinazugawa.

Finding this out, Muzan shows his desire to find and consume Nezuko to become resistant to the sun too; Lady Tamayo also sends a letter to Tanjiro. As Tanjiro departs the village, the swordsmiths joyously honor him for his heroic deeds.

After learning that Haganezuka is refusing to reforge his sword, Tanjiro is told he can travel to the Swordsmith Village for help. However, Tanjiro can't just go straight to Swordsmith Village alone because the path to the village is a secret. To protect the village and the precious swordsmiths who forge the Nichirin swords, the path to Swordsmith Village is concealed using various methods.

The travellers are passed on from kakushi to kakushi on the way to the village, so not even they know where the village is. Furthermore, the kakushi are frequently changed to carry travellers, and the route itself is everchanging. The kakushi know where to go by following kasugai crows to the next point of transfer, and even the crows are swapped out from time to time. The intense protective measures are to ensure that demons do not find the village and attack.

Naturally, the village's main purpose is to forge swords of the highest quality in order for demon slayers to kill demons. On top of that, an exquisite hot spring can be found in the village. The chief of Swordsmith Village, Tecchin Tecchikawahara, has reassured that this hot spring does "wonders for the body". It's clear that the village is a great resource for Demon Slayers, revitalizing both their armory and bodies.

The swordsmiths residing in Swordsmith Village are responsible for manufacturing the nichirin blades that are necessary to kill demons. Their role is essential to demon slayers, for without their valuable blades, the Demon Slayer Corps cannot perform their duties. A higher skill is required for these particular swordsmiths, in comparison to an ordinary swordmaker. Both the swordsmiths of the village and demon slayers rely on one another, which Tanjiro describes as "fighting the same fight".

All swordsmiths in the village wear hyottoko masks. The faces of the masks are exaggerated comical human faces, with the mouth puckered to one side. The purpose of the masks is maintain further security in Swordsmith Village by obscuring the identity of its inhabitants. Hyottoko comes from the words "fire" and "man", which is appropriate to describe the work of the blacksmiths of Swordsmith Village.

Whether we focus on the Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, or on the main trio of the story, Demon Slayer remains a fan-favorite anime of many people at the time. With its third season still running, it's a surprise to many people that Zenitsu and Inosuke seems to be absent from the Swordsmith village arc as a whole, to the point that they are nowhere assigned to the current conundrum. The only issue many people seem to have is because of the possibility of the main trio being separated when for two seasons they have been involved together when slaying demons. However, is there any narrative reason for why Zenitsu and Inosuke happened to be removed for the Swordsmith Village Arc when their presence could have made the battle much easier to handle?

No matter who you ask about which three characters are important to the story as a trio and as a group, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke are simply the only three that fit the description. With Tanjiro's kindness and fiery determination, Zenitsu's hidden potential due to his cowardice, and Inosuke's bluster and promising abilities; the three of them make not only a great team but also fearsome demon slayers in their own right. It has been proven during the first and second seasons of Demon Slayer, and it has been proven even with Tanjiro fighting the Upper Moon 4 without Zenitsu or Inosuke. However, it can be confusing as to why the author Koyoharu Gotoge decided to exclude two of the trio out of the story for one major arc. Despite that, there is the possibility that it was to make space for the other prominent characters that would make for good development and provide an understanding of characters we haven't seen properly since season 1.

The duties of each member are separate and usually assigned on a singular basis, which explains why Zenitsu and Inosuke were sent out as soon as they could. Meanwhile, Tanjiro had to focus on Rehabilitation Training to recover from the injuries that he sustained during the Entertainment District Arc, therefore he wasn't immediately sent out on missions for the time being. In fact, the major reason Tanjiro happened to be in the Swordsmith Village in the first place was because his swordsmith Haganezuka refused to make him a sword out of spite and anger that Tanjiro broke his previous sword. This resulted in a situation where Tanjiro's original intent wasn't to slay a demon on a mission, but simply convince Haganezuka to smith him a better blade so that he can continue to fight demons in the future. e24fc04721
