Who can participate?
All CSU East Bay students and alumni are welcome to participate. Teams must be led by current CSU students. We encourage participants from all majors and disciplines—you don't need to be a computer science or engineering student to contribute valuable skills to a team.
Do I need a team?
No! You can participate in several ways:
Come with an existing team and project
Come with an idea and form a team at the info session
Come without an idea and join a team working on Omatochi challenges or other concepts
Team formation happens at the February 5th info session, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to connect with others.
What skills do I need?
We welcome participants with diverse skills and backgrounds. Successful teams often include members with different expertise: Design and UX ; Technical development (coding, AI, data); Business and strategy; Healthcare or caregiving experience; Communication and presentation; Research and user interviews.
Don't worry if you don't have all these skills—that's why we form multidisciplinary teams and provide workshops and mentorship!
Is there a cost?
No! Demo Lab is completely free to participate. We provide:
Free workshops and mentorship
Pizza and refreshments at the important sessions.
Potential grants for winning ideas
What if I can't attend all sessions?
While we encourage full participation to get the most out of the program, we understand that schedules can be challenging. The required sessions are:
February 5 (Info Session & Team Formation) - Highly recommended
March 6 (Demo Day) - Required
March 7 (Final Presentation) - Required
The other workshops are valuable learning opportunities, but you can work with your team to catch up if you miss one. However, regular participation will give you the best experience and support for your project.
