María Ávila is a writer, transdisciplinary researcher, and social project coordinator. She was born in 1992 and grew up in Morelia, Michoacán.
She holds a master’s degree in Social Anthropology from the Université libre de Bruxelles (2016), and since, she has been involved in projects that explore the connections between writing, theatre, literature, and ethnography. Her work weaves urban cycling, feminism, anthropology, and memory through multiple forms of expression, including academic essays, autobiographical writing, chronicles, and writing manuals.
María writing has been published in books, online platforms and academic journals. Her more recent work, as a co-author, is Descubrir que hay vida (UNAM, 2025). She has taken part in numerous participatory research projects and collective knowledge-building processes rooted in community.
She currently writes and edits for (re)Ciclarse en la ciudad, a community-based digital archive that reflects her ongoing interest in urban cycling as a lens to explore gender, memory, and embodied experience. She is also developing her nonfiction project Aquí no hay espacio para ti, with the support of the Sistema de Apoyos para la Creación y Proyectos Culturaes (SACPC) in Mexico.
In addition to her creative work, María facilitates workshops and coordinates projects in both academic and civil society contexts, with a focus on youth and gender.
