Following the demise of Delta Omicron in January 1998, Brother Fred Rosenkampff, who was then the ACB President, immediately saw the need to begin the effort to reestablish the Chapter. He began by writing a letter to 200 + alumni announcing the formation of a new alumni organization to be known as the DO100+. It would be the sole financial avenue to serve the needs of the alumni, scholarship fund and the Chapter. The name signified one hundred brothers +, giving one hundred dollars or more each year.*
The DO100+ thus serves not only as a alumni group but a continuing source of revenue for the financial responsibilities of the ACB as set forth in the National ACB By Laws. These responsibilities include:
To oversee the financial and business affairs of the undergraduate chapter.
To promote alumni interest in the chapter and the Fraternity.
To foster and maintain continued brotherhood and support for the undergraduate chapter among the alumni and community.
Coordinate any solicitation of gifts or donations from alumni for the benefit of the undergraduate chapter.
To issue an alumni newsletter.
Until the DO100+, money solicited from alumni was sporadic. The DO100+ has allowed the ACB to set a yearly budget with income based on previous and anticipated giving, thus providing a basics for the money it has available for various needs. Presently, $3,000.00 per year goes into the Jack Wesley Barnett Scholarship Fund. Actual money used for scholarships is determined by WCU from the interest earned from the funds investments. Principal is not used. In order for us to give more and or larger scholarships, the fund has to have more money in it which results from either contributions or earning.
Besides the JWBSF, DO100+ money is used:
To help the chapter with capital improvements. For example, 4 years ago we co-op with the chapter to buy new furniture. Not only was the furniture needed for the Brothers, it paid dividends in recruitment. It made everyone proud of the house and guest felt more comfortable in new clean furnishings.
To subsidize cost for events such as training seminars, National Convention, and rush
To help offset the cost of homecoming, such as the tent rental
To pay the cost of our newsletter and other office supplies
To pay for liability insurance
DO100+ funds are the sole source of revenue for the ACB to use for chapter and alumni purposes. What we spend is directly related to your contribution. We are very conscious of cost saving measures. In fact we estimate savings of $1,000.00 by eliminating printed newsletters to non DO100+ supporters. We’ve saved more money by eliminating the web page and going to Facebook. Your contribution is more than just money given. It’s a personal statement that you are “repaying the debt”, that the fraternity is an important continuing part of your life and that you are willing to help insure that other young men have the opportunity to experience the Brotherhood we found in Delta Sigma Phi.
