There are a number of tours to Delos that leave from Mykonos to Delos island every day. They range from inexpensive group tours on the public ferry to small private tours on private boats. Cruise ships passengers often arrive en masse in the middle of the day so plan your visit wisely.

The best way to visit the island independently is by catching the ferry from Mykonos, which departs from its old port. Once on the island, you can take a Delos self-guided tour by using the maps available from the ticket office.

Back in 1990 the boats were smaller and they ferried fewer visitors to the island. Now there are fewer crossings for tourists to choose from. And the ferries are substantially bigger, carrying around 200 or so people. While the experience of getting to Delos island has changed dramatically, I am not going to go all misty-eyed and harp on about how it was all so much better before. On the contrary. Despite having had to queue for 20 minutes to pay my entrance fee and even with so many more people on the island, I enjoyed this visit as much as I did my first. Delos is, and always will be, on my list of Top Ten places to visit in Greece.

The Greek Ministry of Culture administers the tickets to the Delos site, but they are not related to the ferry company from Mykonos, so it is not possible to buy a ferry ticket with an entry only ticket without a guided tour.

If you choose this option, I recommend being ready to get off the ferry as soon as it docks. Ferries from Mykonos and Naxos/Paros arrive around the same time and all those people who are not booked on a guided tour are then required to queue for a ticket to enter the site. You can wait up to 30 minutes if you are last off the boat. So as the boat nears the island, stand at the back of the boat and be ready to be one of the first off the boat. And then hot foot it to the ticket office. There is no time to be taking in the atmosphere once your feet are back on terra firma and taking photographs. Do that after you have your ticket.

Added to all this, the ferry ride from Mykonos to Delos is only 30 minutes, which is in itself an adventure for some. And considering three hours is the longest time you will have to stay on the island, both lovers of archaeology and Greek history and incidental tourists are catered for. Three hours is ample time to explore a lot of the site, and also a enough time to marvel at some of the highlights and enjoy a cool frappe or freshly squeezed ice cold orange juice with a spectacular view before heading back to the contemporary world.

This small protected Island is only a short ferry ride away from Mykonos Greece. These Ferry's are readily available during the summer months, and in the winter months run on a tight and limited schedule. The ride to the Island only takes about 30 minutes & cost about 10 euros. Be sure to check out ferry times before venturing there, and tours that can take you to Delos and surrounding islands.

Ferry rides can be purchased either on the Island of Mykonos or here. Avoid going in August as the sea can be quite rough and the boat is a smaller passenger boat. They also have 1/2 day guided tours from Mykonos for about 50 Euros as well.

There are minimal facilities on the island, so make sure to relieve yourself before taking the ferry and bring water. Delos Tours can take anywhere from 2-4 hours, depending on how detailed you want the tour to be, and if you have an archeological guide or not.

You can tour the Delos with a half day tour from Mykonos, take a sailing boat to Delos and several other surrounding islands, or take a private shore excursion and get to your cruise ship back on time. It is up to you, but I would venture to say it would be well worth your time if you love history, nature and Greek Mythology.

I would highly recommend getting the audio tour and a map of the place. There are signs to tell you about the different sites on the Island of Delos. Most signs are in both Greek & English, giving a brief and limited explanation of this island and its inhabitants.

In this original audio guide created for the Portland Art Museum, Artist Jen Delos Reyes and Musician Daniel Osborne pair musical selections with a sampling of work from the museums permanent collection. These songs not only operate as background music for the pieces, but were chosen because of the additional information the songs provide the artwork. Pick up one of the museums iPod Touches to take this tour and receive the accompanying zine describing the musical pairings.

Important note: In your confirmation email, you will receive a form to fill in and sign detailing our wireless tour guide system safe use and return policy. You need to sign it and return it to info@delostours.gr at least 24 hours before your tour starts.

Before Mykonos was a popular tourist island, another one just off its coast was where the rich and famous would come. They bought houses, shopped in the markets, cavorted with people from across the world.

Are the parallels between the two? In some ways, yes. Of course they look very different now, though. But it does make you wonder what the vibrant tourism centres of Mykonos may look like in 2000 years time!

You can buy Delos tickets online here (make sure you tick the box to say you want the guided tour). Or you can get them at the ticket booth at the harbour in Mykonos Town.

Most people spend about 3 hours on Delos but if boats allow (depending on the time of year you visit) you can be there for less or more time. The guided tour is 90-minutes.

We are going to be in Mykonos the first week of October and will have a rental car to get us to the port. Should we book the tour ahead of time or just head over to the port when we get there to book a tour?

This is final installment of my three-part series on upgrading my turntable. I've made low budget isolation tweaks, added fabulous accessories, and modified the tonearm wiring and the counterweight. The last piece of the musical puzzle was adding a new phono cartridge. While I let the cartridge choice out of the bag in Phase Two (HERE), it is in this final chapter that I apprehensively dive into the meat of "vinyl rules". As is always the case with fine audio, I've learned just enough to understand how much I still don't know.

A certified tour guide for Mykonos and Delos island at your service. My name is Konstantine and I am a licensed tour guide for all of Greece but my main focus is Mykonos and Delos as I am a Mykonos resident. I love sharing my knowledge with others as well as learning from them. I am fluent in English and Greek and have been guiding on Delos and Mykonos for many years but also have knowledge about the rest of Greece which I have been lucky enough to learn about and explore with the Guiding college and on my own. I\u2019m always more than happy to share this knowledge with guests.

Who could have compared Rega rp10 vs new p10. I wonder which combo would sound best: buy a rega p10 and keep my Lyra delos, or buy a Lyra kleos ( the higher level in the Lyra range) and keep my Rp10.

Any thoughts, listenings ?

My delos on rega rp10 sounds very good. Lyra on rega rb2000 arms fit very well. I have an acoustic signature spacer ( shim) . Have heard the Rega Apheta 2, but prefer clearly my Lyra.

I had the P25 some years ago . It could not really take better carts at that time. The RB 2000 is something else.

Passengers can only access certain parts of the island on guided tours offered at set times throughout the day. Tour guides provide historical background and inform visitors about how each site was used by ancient Greeks, starting with the most accessible sites near the harbor entrance. Tickets must be purchased online beforehand through an international company, which will send you an e-mail confirmation with a ticket attached after payment. All guests must present their e-mail confirmation to enter Delos, which will also show proof of purchase if asked by police officers stationed around the island. After visiting these initial sites, travelers walk north along the coast until they reach the theater district (where all performances took place), followed by homes reserved for wealthy families and then down towards the agora (marketplace) where goods were sold wholesale.
