With the popularity of the miniseries, Dallas was launched into a full series. Starting with this season, filming would take place in Texas and California.
One change that takes place is the visual appearance of the show. Filming could no longer take place at Box Ranch, so producers moved to find a new home that would stand in for Southfork. A ranch named Duncan Acres was found in Parker, Texas. Now, all of the Ewings would live under one roof instead of using a main house as well as detached cottages. Also, the interior scenes were now shot at a new location. This time a home on Dallas' Park Lane stood in for the interiors of the famous home. These interiors were used until a replica could be built on a sound stage in Culver City, California. Ewing Oil moved to a new location as well. Renaissance Tower in downtown Dallas will be shown as the Ewing Oil exterior.
During this season Dallas was moved three times before they found the right night for the largest audience. Dallas finally found its sweet spot and long-lasting home on the schedule on Friday nights starting January 26, 1979.
