1845 - Texas is admitted to the US as the twenty-eighth state
1850s
1850 - Dallas wins election to be named the county seat
1856 - Texas legislature grants Dallas a town charter
1860s
1861 - Texas secedes from the United States
1865 - Civil War ends
1880s
1886 - First State Fair of Texas is held in Dallas
1890s
1890 - Fort Worth Union Stockyards begin operating
1900s
1901 - Oil strike at Spindletop near Beaumont, Texas
1910s
1914 - WWI begins
1915 - Southern Methodist University opens
1917 - Love Field opens for military use
1918 - WWI ends
1920s
1927 - Love Field opens for civilian use
1929 - The Great Depression begins
1930s
1930 - C. M. Joiner strikes oil 100 miles east of Dallas
1930 - Bonnie and Clyde meet in Dallas and begin crime spree
1939 - WWII begins

1941 - Box Ranch built in Frisco, Texas
1945 - WWII ends

1953 - Dwight D. Eisenhower becomes the first Texas-born President of the United States
1960s
1960 - NFL awards franchise to the Dallas Cowboys
1963 - President John F. Kennedy is assassinated in Dallas motorcade
1970s
1970 - Duncan Acres built in Parker, Texas
1971 - Texas Stadium opens in Irving, Texas
1972 - Founding of the Texas Rangers baseball team
1974 - DFW International Airport opens; First International Bancshares Tower (now named Renaissance Tower) opens
1976 - ThanksGiving Square is dedicated
1978 - Dallas begins airing on CBS
1980s
1983 - DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) is created
1985 - InterFirst Plaza (now named Bank of America Plaza) opens
1986 - Allied Plaza (now named Fountain Place) opens
1987 - Annette Strauss as first female mayor of Dallas; Box Ranch burns
1990s
1991 - Dallas airs its final episode on CBS
1996 - Dallas: J.R. Returns airs on CBS
1998 - Dallas: War of the Ewings airs on CBS

2009 - Cowboys Stadium (now AT&T Stadium) opens in Arlington, TX
